Soccer World, a weekly national newspaper published in Sydney, was established by Hungarian immigrants in 1958. It was known as the "Green Paper" and promised to "act as a link between Australians and New Australians in bringing them together on the field of sport".
Andrew Dettre took over as editor in 1963 and, alongside his colleague Lou Gautier, used it to explore the various challenges that faced the game in the post-war period. His writing formed the first draft of the most decisive era of Australia's football history.
Dettre passed away, aged 92, in 2018. Just prior to his death, he was inducted into Australia's football Hall of Fame for services to journalism and sport.
This iconic masthead is nothing short of a cult classic.
